The IDF on Monday unveiled its new futuristic combat methods and innovation division that will be a key element in the military’s long-term planning and structuring.
The unit is part of the IDF’s Planning Division, the central body of the General Staff that deals with strategic planning, the military force building, the military organization and the IDF’s foreign policy.
The division, which commenced its operation some two months ago, will focus on developing innovative combat concepts and methods, connecting and synchronizing the efforts by the different units, and the use of existing resources, knowledge and capabilities in the IDF, the State of Israel and the world to solve operational challenges with maximum effectiveness and in a short time.
“The IDF needs to have a body that is constantly attentive to innovation, as the latter yields many fruits that can and must be utilized to improve combat effectiveness,” said IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi during the unveiling ceremony.
The division will “engage in the development of combat methods and the management and design of multi-unit power building processes to ensure that, alongside the important work in the various units, all efforts in this important world are coordinated and synchronized,” he added.
