Washington – Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib are planning a trip to Israel, starting Sunday. As reported by VIN, Israeli officials have previously decided to allow the pair of BDS supporters to visit the country, so as not to damage the Israeli-US relationship. Former Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat has even went so far as to express his willingness to meet with the congresswomen, as long as they are “willing to learn and listen.”
However, President Trump does not appear to share the same sentiment. “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds,” the President tweeted Thursday.
It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!
It appears that PM Netanyahu has taken the president’s words to heart, as israeli officials have now announced that Omar and Tlaib are not welcome to visit the country. Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely confirmed the government’s decision to deny entry.
The decision may cause further strain in the relationship between Israel and democratic jews, but will likely strengthen PM Netanyahu’s relationship with President Trump.
