Abbas: ‘Trump offered to establish a confederation between PA and Jordan’
Senior White House advisor Jared Kushner presented a proposal to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), to establish a confederation consisting of Jordan and the Palestinian Authority as part of United States President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, Abbas told a delegation of Israeli MKs and Peace Now activists in Ramallah on Sunday.
The meeting Abbas was referring to was one that took place in August of 2017 between him, Kushner, and U.S. special envoy Jason Greenblatt. According to Abbas, he told the two that he would agree to a confederation only if Israel were a part of it as well.
“They asked me if I believe in a confederation with Jordan. I said ‘yes, I want a triple confederation with Jordan and with Israel’, I asked them if Israel would agree to such a proposal,” said Abbas, who accused the United States of being “hostile toward the Palestinians and [putting an end to] the peace process.”
