Attempted Stabbing Attack in Jerusalem; Terrorist Neutralized

Written by Andrew Friedman/TPS on March 29, 2017

A 49-year-old resident of East Jerusalem was killed by the Israel Police on Wednesday when she attempted to stab a border police officer at the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. No injured Israelis were reported.

Police stated the woman exited the Old City and proceeded towards security forces stationed in the area, before taking out scissors and waving them towards the policemen. The Israeli forces responded quickly and neutralized her. The scissors were taken as evidence by the police.

Jerusalem District Commander, Major General Yoram Halevy, praised the actions of the police forces, stating that “the determined and uncompromising response stopped the attempted attacked at the onset and prevented further harm to innocents.”

Israel Police Spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told TPS that police have heightened security in and around the Damascus Gate area and are trying to identify the attacker.

Palestinian sources reported the woman to be Jerusalem resident Siham Rathab Namar. She was presumably the mother of Mustafa Namar, killed during an attempted vehicular terror attack against security forces in the refugee camp of Shuafat this past September.
