Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald Announces his candidacy for President!

Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald, the founding director of the National Jewish Outreach Program (NJOP), has toiled for 28 years to make America great by pursuing such policies as “Shabbat Across America.” So far he has reached out to one million guests at Shabbat Across America and Canada, and has taught Hebrew to some 250,000 Jews.

That’s not enough. He wants to eventually double those numbers by intensifying his outreach efforts during the current White House election cycle.

While celebrating his 70th birthday at NJOP’s annual dinner on Feb. 3 at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan, Buchwald displayed a campaign button that declared his candidacy for president of America on a new platform: the Shabbat Party.

“I am running for president of Shabbat Across America,” he said. “Please vote for the Shabbat Party.”

Buchwald presented real estate mogul Sam Domb an award in the shape of a charity box for his years of support for the outreach organization.

“This tzedaka box is costing me $100,000,” Domb said as he reached in his pocket for a check.

Also honored at the dinner were Ellen and Mordecai Lipkis, Rachel and Rabbi Daniel Kraus, and Sarah Rochel Hewitt.
