NICE (JNS) A man who attempted to break into a Jewish school in southern France while shouting anti-Semitic slurs was arrested by police after guards at the school confronted him and sounded an alarm, according to a report in the Algemeiner.

French authorities have not released the suspect’s name.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi Nice praised the guard’s “quick action” in preventing an attack at the Or Torah School in Nice on Tuesday, and condemned the rise of anti-Semitism in France as “unnacceptable.”

“I condemn these intolerable acts. I cannot accept the rise of anti-Semitism in our country,” said Estrosi.

According to local media reports, the suspect fled after being confronted by the school guards, but was quickly apprehended by police.

The mayor praised the “professionalism of the officers of the Municipal Police of Nice and the National Police” as well as the school guards, who he said had acted “calmly and courageously,” according to the report.
