IDF Soldier Injured in Lebanon Cross-Border Shooting

Written by Michael Bachner/TPS on October 26, 2016

An IDF soldier posted near the town of Metula in northern Israel was hurt on Wednesday afternoon by gunshots fired from Lebanese territory.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the shots were fired from a passing vehicle towards an IDF force engaged in routine activity near the border fence. The soldiers returned fire and hit the vehicle.

The soldier was lightly wounded in his hand and was taken to Ziv Medical Center in Tzfat to receive treatment. The hospital said the soldier will undergo surgery to remove shrapnel from his hand.

Later, IDF troops recognized the suspected vehicle near the spot from which the shot were fired. The sides engaged in a shootout, and the IDF force said it hit the shooting vehicle again.

Following the incident, Israeli farmers working in the area of the attack were instructed to stay away from fields adjacent to the border fence.
