Ashkelon (TPS) – A 20-year-old Israeli soldier was stabbed near the Central Bus Station in the coastal city of Ashkelon on Sunday morning, February 7.

The soldier sustained light injuries to his shoulder shortly before 8:30 AM and was treated at the scene before being transported to Barzilai Medical Center.

Magen David Adom (MDA) Paramedic Ariel Plaut, who treated the soldier, said: “We were driving when pedestrians signaled to us to stop and we saw a fully conscious 20-year-old man on a bench with several stab wounds in his upper body. We took the victim, who sustained light injuries, to the hospital in the ambulance, while providing him with medical treatment and conversing with him along the way.”

The suspected terrorist, who was identified as 32-year-old Kamel Hassan, a Sudanese migrant, attempted to flee the scene. According to the police, another soldier who witnessed the attack took the wounded soldier’s weapon, pursued the terrorist, and shot him in the legs on a nearby street. The terrorist was transported to Barzilai hospital in serious condition and later succumbed to his wounds.

According to the police, the knife that was used in the attack was found at the scene.

Shlomit Gonen, a 65-year-old Israeli woman, was stabbed and lightly injured in her neck and ear in the predominantly Bedouin town of Rahat one day earlier.

Gonen was attacked at around 5:00 PM on Saturday at a market in the southern city and received treatment at Soroka Medical Center in the nearby city of Beersheba. She was released from the hospital one day later in good condition.

The terrorist in that attack fled the scene and has not yet been caught despite widespread searches conducted by the police, which have included the use of roadblocks.
