Israel and Japan signed a historic security agreement on Tuesday that “will strengthen and deepen security relations between the two countries,” Israel’s Defense Ministry stated.

The agreement was signed in a festive ceremony at the Tokyo Defense Ministry.

The agreement was signed following discussion between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and after subsequent meetings between the head of Japan’s National Security Council and head of the Israeli NSC Meir Ben Shabbat.

Netanyahu. Who also serves as defense minister, welcomed the agreement as a move that will “deepen and strengthen security relations between the countries. We brought the Israel-Japan relations to an all-time high.”
