Israeli Border Police securing the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Sunday arrested a female Arab who was found to be carrying a knife and is suspected of planning to carry out a terror attack.
Border Police officers were on patrol when they noticed the Arab woman who was behaving suspiciously. When she attempted to run through the metal detectors at the entrance to the holy site they stopped her.
She then drew the knife while shouting “you have weapons and I have a knife.”
The suspect approached the guards, who were standing behind a protected area, and they were successful in disarming her without firing shots or causing injury.
The female suspect, 22, also had a Quran on her body.
She is suspected of planning and attempting to carry out a stabbing attack.
Israeli forces are on high alert for the Muslim month of Ramadan.
The Cave of the Patriarchs has been the site of multiple terror attacks and attempted attacks.
