LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY TO MARK MEMORIAL DAY FOR ISRAEL’S FALLEN SOLDIERS WITH SPECIAL CEREMONY

Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) and LA-area Jewish organizations will commemorate ‘Yom Hazikaron’ for fallen Israeli soldiers and victims of terror

More than 1,000 members of the Los Angeles community are expected to gather at the Steve Tisch Cinema Center at the Saban Theatre on Tuesday, May 10 to commemorate “Yom Hazikaron,” Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. The community-wide night of remembrance is hosted by Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF), Temple of the Arts (TOTA), and The Wiesenthal Center.

Following last year’s successful inaugural commemoration, more than 50 local schools, synagogues, and organizations have partnered on this Yom Hazikaron community event. The ceremony will honor the memory of Israel’s fallen heroes and pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who defend Israel and Jews around the world.

“These are trying times for Israel and the soldiers of the IDF,” said TOTA Rabbi David Baron. “Amid the latest spate of terror attacks, Israel’s soldiers and civilians need to know that we stand with them – now more than ever. We expect this Yom Hazikaron to be an exceptional and memorable evening honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice guarding the State of Israel and combatting the global scourge of terrorism that threatens all freedom-loving people.”

The commemoration will feature a special screening of Morah Films’ documentary “Our Boys,” which explores the events surrounding the kidnapping and murder of Eyal Yifrach Z”L, Naftali Frenkel Z”L, and Gilad Shaer Z”L by Hammas terrorists in the summer of 2014. The film also examines the subsequent Hamas rocket attacks on Israel, which led to Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, and how these events have led to the greatest resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe since the fall of Nazi Germany.

The event is open to the public free of charge. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin promptly at7:30 p.m. For more information about the event please contact the FIDF Western Region at (323) 843-2690.
