President Reuven Rivlin on Tuesday concluded consultations with parties elected to the 21st Knesset regarding the formation of Israel’s 35th government.
At the end of the second day of consultations at Beit HaNasi in Jerusalem, 65 members of Knesset recommended Benjamin Netanyahu be entrusted with the formation of the new government. Only 45 MKs recommended that MK-elect Benny Gantz be given the task, and 10 MKs of the Arab parties requested not to make a recommendation.
Rivlin on Wednesday will receive the official elections results from Chairman of the Central Elections Committee Judge Hanan Melcer.
Later on, he will receive Netanyahu and will entrust him with forming the next government.
Netanyahu has already commenced with the complex craft of forming a coalition and will have 28 days to form a new government after being commissioned by Rivlin. If required, the president can allocate an additional 14 days.
