President Horacio Cartes will be visiting Israel before the end of the month in order to take part in the official transfer of the Paraguayan Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman said Monday.

“Paraguay will open its embassy in Jerusalem until end of May!” Tweeted Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon, “President Cartes will open the embassy! Wonderful news as the international recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital gathers momentum. Gracias Paraguay por su amistad,” he added.

In the past, Cartes has voiced his intentions of moving the embassy to Jerusalem before the end of his tenure as President, which is set to end in just about three months.
