Jerusalem (TPS) – The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Jerusalem District police announced on Wednesday that after conducting a joint investigation, an Arab resident of Jerusalem was caught and arrested for stabbing an ultra-Orthodox Jewish teenager last Thursday.

“After reliable intelligence about the incident was obtained by the Shin Bet, police officers arrested a 19-year-old Arab resident of the Jerusalem neighborhood of A-Tur  for stabbing a Jewish teen with a sharpened wooden stake,” stated Galit Ziv, a spokesperson for the Jerusalem District Police.

According to the Shin Bet, the suspect, Ahmed Naim Ashayer, came upon his 18-year old victim who at the time, was leaving from the Mount of Olives Jewish cemetery located right next to A-Tur. Ashayer confessed during his interrogation to stabbing the teenager with a makeshift wooden stake, leaving him with only a light to moderate injury before feeling the scene.

The Jewish victim then boarded one of the buses and was taken to a nearby police outpost. He reported the attack to the policemen who called in medical teams and summoned additional police forces to conduct searches for the terrorist who fled the scene.

Shin Bet added that it was discovered during his interrogation, that Ashayer participated in several fire bombings and Molotov cocktail throwing incidents during April 2015.
