Israeli police arrested two teenagers on May 19 accused of stabbing two elderly women on the morning of Remembrance Day, May 10.

The report of the arrest was cleared for publication on Monday.

Two women, aged 86 and 82, were stabbed by the two assailants at the promenade in Armon Hanatziv, overlooking Jerusalem’s Old City, on the morning of May 10. A third, believed to be involved in the planning of the attack, fled the scene before the stabbing.

The women sustained moderate injuries and were sent to Shaare Zedek Hospital.

The suspects, aged 16 and 17 from Jabel Mukaber, confessed to speaking to one another on social media sites about their plans to attack Jews. In the weeks following the attack, the two assailants discussed plans via WhatsApp to initiate another attack in light of the “success” of the first.

The investigation revealed that the mother of one of the suspects was arrested a week ago in Judea and Samaria for allegedly attempting a stabbing attack near the Mount of Olives

The Jerusalem District Police commander praised the work of the police and the Shin Bet:

“The police will continue to act decisively on behalf of the residents of the capital. We will use all means necessary and will prosecute all who break the law and every assailant to the full extent of the law,” he said in a statement.
