WATCH: Israel Facilitates Palestinians’ Pilgrimage to Mecca
In the coming months, tens of thousands of Palestinians are expected to pass through the Allenby Bridge Crossing from Israel into Jordan, on their way to a pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
In expectation of the surge in traffic, the IDF’s Liaison Office at Allenby Bridge Crossing prepared for their reception ahead of time to ensure a quick and safe crossing.
The IDF’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) was present at the bridge and saw firsthand how this complex undertaking is carried out.
The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city to the Muslims, and a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all those who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey.
