NEW YORK (VINnews) — The Director of Athletics at Yeshiva University posted a tweet saying that the school’s basketball team was apparently forced to forfeit a game, after not being given sufficient time to warm up following Shabbos.
On Motzei Shabbos, Greg Fox posted a tweet saying that the game against Farmingdale was cancelled. He said the team arrived as soon as possible after Shabbos, however they were not allowed warm-up time, which could endanger the safety of players.
As a result, they had no choice but to cancel the game. Fox added that he was assured that the team would be accommodated.
Although it is not clear whether the opposing school is to blame, or the NCAA, it is disgraceful that an Orthodox Jewish team’s religious observance was not accommodated.
