IDF Soldier Lightly Wounded In Hebron Stabbing Attack, Terrorist Shot Dead
An IDF soldier sustained light injuries on Monday morning following a stabbing attack near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
In a statement, the IDF confirmed the incident saying that both wounded soldier and that additional forces at the scene had responded with live fire.
It’s believed the terrorist, who was carrying a pair of scissors, lunged at a group of soldiers standing between the Avraham Avinu neighborhood and the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
“After being stabbed, the soldier, along with other troops nearby, shot and neutralized the terrorist, preventing him from stabbing anyone else,” it said.
The terrorist was killed in the incident. The soldier is in stable condition.
Palestinian media identified the terrorist as 42-year-old Muammar Arif al-Atrash.
This is the fourth stabbing attack to take place in the last two weeks.
Last week, a Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed during an attempted stabbing attack at the Gitai Avishar Junction in northern Samaria.
At the time the IDF said that “a Palestinian attempted to stab a soldier at a bus stop. Our troops fired at him and he was killed. There were no casualties among our forces.”
The week before, a 32-year-old IDF reservist soldier and a young woman were injured in a terrorist attack next to a bus stop outside of Nablus.
Earlier that same week, a Palestinian shot and killed two Israelis at the Barkan industrial area on Sunday. In that case as well, the assailant was able to escape the scene without being caught. The IDF is still on a manhunt to find the terrorist responsible.
