Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed on Tuesday that the Canada-U.S. border closure on non-essential travel will remain in place until July 21.
The extension is not a surprise — media reports last week suggested both countries were holding talks about prolonging the border restrictions, and Canadian leaders have expressed little desire to reopen the border this early in the recovery. To date, there have been about 99,000 Covid-19 cases in Canada, compared to more than two million in the U.S.
The previous agreement was set to expire on Sunday.
