Former Hamas leader, Khaled Mashal, has urged Muslims worldwide to partake in a global “Day of Jihad,” or holy war, this Friday, October 13th.
Mashal, who led Hamas from 2014 to 2017 and currently resides in Qatar, relayed his message to Reuters earlier today, describing the situation as a “moment of truth” for the Arab and Islamic community. He emphasized the urgency, stating, “[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday.”
Hamas also called on Palestinians within Yehuda and Shomron to rise up against Israeli soldiers, and called on Arab citizens of Israel (“Our people within the occupied territories of 1948”) to revolt against the state.
Highlighting the importance of the call, Mashal said, “To all scholars who teach jihad … to all who teach and learn, this is a moment for the application [of jihad].” Additionally, he specifically reached out to Muslims in nations neighboring Israel, urging, “Tribes of Jordan, sons of Jordan, brothers and sisters of Jordan … This is a moment of truth and the borders are close to you, you all know your responsibility.”
Hamas referred to the day as “Al-Aqsa Flood” Friday, referring to the name of the operation in which it massacred more than 1,200 Israelis, wounded roughly 3,000, and kidnapped over 100.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has issued a directive for all its officers to report to duty in uniform starting this Friday, as a precautionary measure in anticipation of potential unrest.
A memo circulated among all NYPD members on Wednesday night stated, “All uniformed members of the service, regardless of rank, are to perform their duties in the standard uniform and be ready for deployment.”
The memo further emphasized that officers will not be granted exemptions or shift changes, and this directive will remain in effect “until further notice.”
Additionally, the NYPD is intensifying security measures at all 77 police precincts, with the assignment of extra officers to monitor entry points and parking areas at these station houses, as outlined in an internal memo.
Those who question the validity of this report, it comes from MEMRI, one of the most reliable and trusted sources of information from the Muslim world for many years. It is also the lead headline on one of the most visited websites in the world, the DrudgeReport.
The backdrop to this call is the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, now in its sixth day. Over 1200 Israelis have been reported dead, with additional casualties still being discovered in kibbutzim by rescue teams.
Mashal has been in exile in Qatar since his 2012 departure from Syria, following tensions with President Bashar Al Assad. Ismail Haniyeh succeeded him and has been leading Hamas since 2017.
