Nazi collaborator adorns t-shirt worn by Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff

Images of the freshman lawmaker’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, wearing a t-shirt with the image of a well-known admirer of Adolf Hitler resurfaced just days after Ocasio-Cortez quoted Eva Peron, another historical figure with troubling connections to the Nazis.

Media outlets are again questioning why Saikat Chakrabarti, who serves as chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), wore a t-shirt in a December 2018 video with an image of Subhas Chandra Bose.

Bose was an Indian political figure who admired the Nazis, met with Adolf Hitler and Holocaust-mastermind Henrich Himmler, and lived in Berlin from 1941 until 1943, during the height of World War II.

Bose was instrumental in founding the Indian Legion, which was eventually transferred to the Nazi Waffen SS unit. Legion members were forced to swear the following oath: “I swear by God this holy oath that I will obey the leader of the German race and state, Adolf Hitler, as the commander of the German armed forces in the fight for India, whose leader is Subhas Chandra Bose.”

Chakrabarti wore the Nazi collaborator t-shirt in a video entitled “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Chief of Staff on Acting Fast in Congress,” posted by NowThis News in December 2018. Images on Twitter also featured Chakrabarti in the t-shirt.

On Monday and Tuesday, articles focusing on Chakrabarti’s t-shirt were featured on the Daily Wire, the Washington Free Beacon, and the Washington Examiner.

The images of Chakrabarti reemerged as debate swirls around his boss, Ocasio-Cortez, for her recent allusion to “concentration camps,” where the Nazis attempted genocide against the Jewish people. She invoked the camps in reference to the United States’ immigrant detention facilities for individuals who enter the country illegally.

Ocasio-Cortez was harshly criticized for the comparison by a number of Jewish leaders.

On the heels of her concentration camp comment, Ocasio-Cortez this week quoted on Twitter Eva Perón, wife of Argentinian dictator and Nazi sympathizer Juan Perón.

Juan Perón facilitated Argentina’s emergence as a safe haven for some of the worst Nazi war criminals, including death camp overseer Adolf Eichmann and “Angel of Death” Josef Mengele.

Ocasio-Cortez experienced backlash for her favorable reference to Eva Perón, who has been accused of profiting from Jewish property looted by the Nazis in World War II.
