Police Arrest 51 in Overnight Raid in Issawiya
51 suspects of participating in disturbances were arrested. According to the press release of the police business licenses were examined and was carried out enforcement against house arrest.
Security forces and civil authorities staged a joint raid overnight between Sunday and Monday in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, arresting 51 people on a variety of charges including disturbing the peace, operating businesses without licenses and more. All the detainees were detained for further questioning.
The operation was conducted in the framework of Operation 700, an integrated law enforcement operation to improve police and civil services in the neighborhood to improve the quality of life for residents. Officials from the National Insurance Institute, the Income Tax Authority, the Sanitation Department of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Municipal Improvement Division (Shefa) who work to remove garbage dumps and safety hazards, erase graffiti and arrange public lighting also participated in the raid.
Jerusalem District Commander Yoram Halevi said in a statement that the goal of the operation was “to deal with those who are involved in criminal offenses, public order and terrorism, and also to improve the quality of life for law-abiding residents by arresting those who violate law and order.”
Police said the operation was the the third one to be held in Jerusalem, and added that more operations would be staged by the end of the year.
