Jerusalem, 2 November, 2021 (TPS) — An American helicopter carrier docked at the port of Eilat on Monday together with hundreds of soldiers from the CENTCOM Marines (MARCENT).
The forces will participate in a two-week joint multi-arm training exercise, during which forces of the Anti-Terrorism Unit, commando forces, and assault and exposure forces will practice open and urban combat methods.
The exercise is led by the IDF and “is part of the close cooperation between the IDF and CENTCOM,” the IDF stated.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) is responsible for the Middle East, including Iran. The IDF was transferred to CENTCOM from EUCOM in January after the signing of the Abraham Accords with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
In September, the Israeli Navy held a joint exercise with the US Fifth Fleet for the first time in history.
The Fifth Fleet is responsible for naval forces in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
Most recently, the IDF dispatched an officer to CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa, Florida. The former fighter pilot with the rank of major will be stationed in Tampa and will work to improve coordination between Israel and the US military.
