Netanyahu: MKs Consoling Families Of Terrorists Are Unfit To Serve In Knesset

Written by Jonathan Benedek/TPS on February 07, 2016

Jerusalem (TPS) – Prime Minister Netanyahu called for both legal and legislative action this morning at the weekly cabinet meeting against the three Arab-Israeli members of Knesset who visited the family members of dead terrorists whose bodies remain in Israeli custody. The three Arab-Israeli MKs, Hanin Zoabi, Jamal Zahalka, and Basel Ghattas are members of the Balad party, which is one of several factions that forms the Joint List party in the Knesset.

“I believe that many of Israel’s citizens feel that these MKs do not represent them,” Netanyahu contended.

“We are making significant efforts to integrate the Arab citizens of Israel and they are doing the exact opposite and are building up walls of hatred,” continued the prime minister.

“I am trying to imagine what would happen in the British parliament and the US Congress if members of Parliament or Congressmen would stand at attention in memory of those who murdered British or American citizens,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu added that he is requesting that legal action be taken against MKs Zoabi, Zahalka and Ghattas.

“I spoke with the attorney general and asked him to examine the possibility of taking legal action against those MKs,” noted Netanyahu.

Netanyahu also called for the Knesset to enact legislation that would make it easier to incriminate MKs for such actions.

“I would like to examine new and stronger changes in the law that would better allow us to prohibit anyone acting this way from serving in the Israeli Knesset,” Netanyahu said.

“In the meantime, I am submitting a complaint to the Knesset’s Ethics Committee with Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, and I expect all members of the opposition who are demanding justice on this matter to support our proposals.”
