Two Separate Stabbing Attacks in Jerusalem; Two People Wounded

Written by Michael Bachner/TPS on November 29, 2015

Jerusalem (TPS) – Two separate knife attacks occurred on Sunday morning, November 29, in different parts of the city. Two people were wounded in total, a border policeman and a Nepalese woman. One of the terrorists was shot dead by Israeli border police, while the other one was apprehended.

The first attack occurred around 7:45 AM near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City, where several other attacks were carried out during the current wave of terrorist attacks. In the attack, an Israeli border policeman in his early 20’s was stabbed in the back of his neck by 38-year-old Baseem Salah, from the Palestinian city of Nablus.

As two border policemen were walking past Salah, he stabbed one of them in the neck while shouting “allahu akbar” (“God is great”). The border policemen managed to shoot and kill Salah. Another knife was discovered in his belongings.

The border policeman suffered moderate wounds and was transported to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital by Magen David Adom.

A larger attack was possibly prevented, since a group of 20 Jewish children who live in the Old City were walking to school at the time of the stabbing and were only meters away from the scene of attack.

Several hours later, a woman was stabbed and wounded near the central bus station at around 10:15 AM.

The victim, a Nepalese citizen in her early 30’s, sustained stab wounds in her back and was lightly to moderately wounded. She was taken inside a nearby bus to receive medical treatment before being evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek hospital.

The attacker fled into a nearby construction site, which was placed under lock-down. Police forces searched the area and apprehended a 17-year-old Palestinian who linked himself to the attack. The knife he apparently used was found as well, and two other suspects were arrested.

Jonathan Benedek contributed to this report.
