Stabbing Attack Foiled in Hebron, Two Soldiers Wounded in Gush Etzion
A Palestinian attempted to stab IDF soldiers shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday at a checkpoint near the village of Bani Na’im in the Mount Hebron region. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said troops shot and killed the assailant, and there were no Israeli casualties. Palestinian sources identified the terrorist as 16-year-old Issa Salim Mahmoud Tarayra, a resident of Bani Na’im.
The attack followed a busy night for Israeli security forces in Judea and Samaria, with multiple operations and raids during which two IDF soldiers were wounded, many weapons were discovered and seized, and 27 Palestinian terror suspects were arrested.
Near Bethlehem, two soldiers were injured during an operation to arrest suspects in the Dheisheh Refugee Camp. Residents attacked troops with firebombs and rocks, who responded with gunfire and riot control methods. One soldier sustained second degree burns after being hit with a firebomb, and a second was treated for smoke inhalation. Both were evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Both soldiers were listed in light-to-moderate condition, and the person suffering from smoke inhalation is expected to be released from the hospital during the day.
In Hebron, IDF searched the Abu Sneina neighborhood following a stabbing attack near the Cave of the Patriarchs on Monday night. Troops searched the neighborhood and discovered machinery for manufacturing weapons, commando knives, ammunition and more military equipment. Three Palestinian suspects were arrested.
North of Jerusalem, in the villages of Bani Zeid and Attil, IDF troops seized rifles and other weapons. In Qatanna, northwest of the capital, police raided a home and discovered a Glock pistol that had apparently been stolen from a home in the central Israeli town of Raanana. Eight attack dogs were also discovered in the house and were quarantined and two suspects were arrested.
In total, the IDF arrested 27 terror suspects. Two have been identified as members of Hamas, and the rest are suspected of attacking Israeli civilians and security forces during riots. All have been detained for questioning.
