Breaking News: Patriot Missile Fired At Aircraft Approaching Israel From Syria

13:18 A Patriot missile was fired from northern Israel at an aerial target inside Syria, according to unconfirmed initial reports.
13:20 A spokesman for the Safed municipality said the source of a loud explosion heard in the vicinity of the town was the firing of a missile by Israeli forces. Residents posted photos and video on social media of a trail of smoke left by the missile.
13:35 An IDF spokesman confirmed that “a short time ago, a Patriot missile was fired toward an unidentified aircraft approaching Israeli territory from Syria.”
13:40 Syrian Opposition sources said a UAV belonging to Hezbollah was downed over Daraa.
14:25 Syrian Media quoted a Syrian Military senior official as saying that the UAV was conducting an operational mission in Southern Syria.
The spokesman said the aircraft had not been hit, but had turned back after the missile was fired in its direction.
“Aerial defense and radar systems identified the threat in time before the aircraft crossed into Israeli air space. The IDF will not permit any violation of Israel’s sovereign air space and will act to protect its citizens,” the statement said.
