YERUSHALAYIM — During his meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Thursday afternoon, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his support for Israel and stressed the importance of calling Hamas a terrorist organization. He acknowledged Israel’s efforts to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza and highlighted the suffering of the Strip’s residents due to Hamas.
President Yitzchak Herzog asked Sunak to intervene in the BBC’s refusal to label Hamas as a terror group, despite its horrific terror attack on civilians in the country’s southern region on Oct. 7. Herzog emphasized that Hamas is one of the world’s worst terrorist organizations and called for international recognition of this fact.
In response, Sunak declared his belief that the BBC should call it what it is: an act of terrorism committed by the evil terrorist organization, Hamas. He expressed the U.K.’s solidarity with Israel, its people, and their right to self-defense. Sunak also emphasized Israel’s duty to restore security to the country and ensure the safe return of the hostages held by Hamas.
Sunak also met with the family members of the hostages in Gaza and reaffirmed the U.K.’s determination to secure their release from the clutches of Hamas terrorists.
