Broken Engagement Leads Palestinian to Plan Terror Attack

Written by Jesse Lempel/TPS on April 05, 2016

A Palestinian man set out to commit a terror attack following a dispute with his parents over his frustrated marriage plans, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) announced Tuesday, April 5.

Imad al-Huli, 26, was arrested near the Samarian community of El Matan with a homemade firearm and a knife on March 23. From the initial investigation it appears that al-Huli set out to commit a shooting attack in the Jewish community, but changed his mind and was caught while returning home.

The Shin Bet also announced Tuesday that three Palestinians were arrested for suspected involvement in a February 2016 shooting attack.

The suspects allegedly fired at passing Israeli vehicles near Iskaka, a Palestinian village in Samaria neighboring the town of Ariel, on February 5. No one was injured in the attack and the suspects were caught four days later.

The three suspects—members of the Abd Arouri family, from the Palestinian village of Bani Zeid al-Sharqiya north of Ramallah—are Abdallah Tayseer Abd Arouri, 30, Hamada Salah Abd Arouri, 30, and Salah Sabri Abd Arouri, 23. None of the suspects have a prior history of terror activity.

The weapons used in the attack have been seized and indictments will be issued soon, the Shin Bet said.
