An Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-15 pilot and navigator were presented with a challenging and dangerous situation last week when the fighter jet’s canopy blew away in mid-flight while they were cruising at 30,000 ft.

The two crewmen managed to maintain their calm and landed the aircraft safety, the IAF revealed Monday.

The IAF stated that during a routine training flight on Wednesday, an F-15 “Falcon” aircraft landed after the plane’s canopy broke off.

“The airmen in the plane controlled the incident and brought the plane to a safe landing at the Nevatim airbase,” the IAF stated.

“The air-force team decided in a joint decision, and after realizing the significance of the incident and estimating that they would be able to safely land the plane, they reported to the ground control unit about the event and approached the base closest,” the IAF stated.

IAF Commander Major General Amikam Nurkin ordered the halting of all training flights on the F-15 planes until the conclusion of an investigation into the incident and after the necessary measures were taken to ensure the pilots’ safety.
