Jerusalem, 14 July, 2022 (TPS) — The Knesset hosted several delegations from around the world in the past weeks, and Members of Knesset met with their counterparts in several countries, another venue of Israel’s prosperous diplomacy.

MK Michal Shir Segman, chair of the Israel-Czech Republic Parliamentary Friendship Group, and MK Yitzhak Ze’ev Pindrus, took part this week in Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s official visit to the Czech Republic.

The MKs met with President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman, who was awarded the President’s Medal for his long-standing support of Israel. The two also took part in a work meeting with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Markéta Pekarová Adamová. During the meeting, Shir Segman discussed the close relationship between the Israeli and Czech legislatures, and between the two countries in general.

The Israel-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by MK Moshe Tur-Paz held a visit to Dublin between July 5–7. During the visit, MK Tur-Paz and MK Emilie Moatti held a series of meetings in the Oireachtas, the Irish Parliament, including meetings with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, with the Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense and with the Friends of Israel Group.

Deputy Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, Convenor of the Oireachtas Friends of Israel Group, said that the visit by the MKs “contributed to a better understanding of the challenges faced by Israel, and helped to counter a discourse in Ireland that was largely one-sided and not based on facts.”

The visit also “contributed to improving the ties between the Knesset and the Irish Parliament. No significant ties have existed between the two parliaments in recent years in light of anti-Israeli initiatives debated in the Irish Parliament.

On July 5, 22 members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, who also serve as members of parliament in 12 different countries – including Turkey, Britain, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Italy – visited the Knesset,

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly members met with MKs and centered on diplomatic issues, environmental protection and displays of anti-Semitism around the world.

A delegation from the French Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee, led by Committee Chair Senator Christian Cambon, visited Israel between June 26–29.

The delegation members met with Knesset Speaker Mickey Levy, with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, and members of the Israel-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana Alban Sumana Bagbin visited the Knesset on June 29. The delegation met with Levy and senior representatives of the Knesset’s units and learned about the Knesset’s work and its activity in the Visitor Center and the National Legislation Database.

In their meeting, Levy and his counterpart discussed the “good relations” between Israel and Ghana, and the importance of continuing the sharing of knowledge and experience accumulated by the Knesset with the Parliament of Ghana.

The sides also discussed the issue of strengthening the ties between Israel and Ghana in international forums and in the African Union (AU).?
