Jerusalem’s police on Tuesday arrested 10 Arab suspects from eastern Jerusalem on suspicion of carrying out illegal activity connected to the Palestinian Authority (PA).
A police spokesman stated that the suspects were arrested for illegally spraying disinfectant materials in the eastern Jerusalem area on behalf of the PA.
Eight of the suspects were released under restricting conditions.
“The Israeli police will take a hard and uncompromising stance against citizens acting on behalf of and for other bodies or authorities in violation of the law,” it stated.
TPS reported that The Fatah movement in Jerusalem is taking advantage of the Coronavirus crisis to demonstrate its sovereignty in the eastern part of the city.
In recent days, the Fatah movement of the Jerusalem District, under the direction of Mahmoud Abbas and the PA leadership, has been working to “ensure the peace of the Palestinian public” in the Old City and eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods.
Fatah youth activists, known as the Habibah, and hundreds of volunteers have been working for several days to disinfect churches, mosques, schools and public institutions throughout the Jerusalem District of the PA, including the Old City, and the neighborhoods of Silwan, Wadi Jose, Beit Hanina and Shuafat.
Groups of people, equipped with protective gear, operate mainly during the night in the so-called “operation for the Palestinian public.”
This activity, according to Fatah officials, is another step in demonstrating Palestinian sovereignty in the eastern part of Jerusalem.
