LA Mikvah Responds To DC Scandel

MikvahOctober 28, 2014

In light of recent events at the Mikvah in Washington, D.C., we would like to update you on the policies and procedures in place at the Mikvah Society of Los Angeles, Mikvat Esther, and assure you that our Mikvah continues to be a safe and secure environment.

Our Mikvah is a community Mikvah, run and managed by women. In terms of security, the Mikvah facilities are locked at all times. Our key system is electronic and records the time and identity of those using electronic entry. Our policy requires all men, including Rabbis and maintenance personnel, to be accompanied when accessing the women’s Mikvah. Additionally, we have arranged for an independent security firm to conduct a sweep of the premises to ensure its security. We will also be updating our peripheral security cameras.

The dedicated individuals who are involved in our Mikvah are motivated to ensure a sanctified place for performing the Mitzvah of Taharat ha-Mishpacha (family purity) and facilitating conversions. As a community Mikvah, we are not affiliated with any particular shul or rabbi, and are guided by the Rabbinic Board of the Mikvah for halachic standard setting and consultation.

Since its inception, the Mikvah Society of Los Angeles, Mikvat Esther, has existed purely to service the community, and the trust a community places in one of its most fundamental organizations is a value we take very much to heart in every Mikvah endeavor. We consider it a privilege to serve those who have shared this trust.

Should you or anyone you know have any questions or need assistance, please call(310) 550-4511 or email us at info@lamikvah.org.
