Overnight, a missile strike ostensibly aimed at Israel hit a medical facility in Taba, an Egyptian resort town near the Israeli border, leaving six people injured, according to Egypt’s Al Qahera News, as reported by Reuters.
Taba, a Red Sea resort town, is situated directly across from Eilat, a southern Israeli resort city. An eyewitness in Taba described hearing an explosion and observing thick smoke and dust rising.
Al Qahera News stated that the missile struck a Taba ambulance facility and a residential building used by Taba Hospital administration. The report also suggested a connection between the explosion in Taba and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
Reuters noted that Egyptian security forces arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.
While it is suspected that the missile may have been launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen with Eilat as the target, this has not been confirmed yet.
The IDF acknowledged a security incident in the area but clarified that it occurred “outside of our border.”
