Vice President Harris’ stepdaughter is fundraising for Gaza

0

Republican congressman Jeff Van Drew calls post ‘abhorrent’ since Hamas is ‘certain’ to get hold of any money that arrives.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter has put an appeal for contributions to Gaza on her social media page, The New York Post reported Saturday.

The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund campaign that 24-year-old Ella Emhoff is promoting to her 315,000 followers on Instagram asks for help “supporting urgent relief for Gaza’s children.”

Ms. Emhoff does not say if she herself made a donation. The fund had already raised $7.7 million of its $10 million goal when she posted the solicitation.

Emhoff has made no public comments about the plight of the roughly 30 Israeli children who were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists when they invaded Israeli communities on October 7th.

Nor does she refer to the minors and the infants who were among over one thousand civilians massacred by the Gaza terrorists in their surprise attack, some burned alive, others decapitated.

A Republican lawmaker lambasted Emhoff for the fundraising post, since he said it was “certain” that the funds would end up going to Hamas, the terrorist organization which rules the Gaza Strip, as has happened with aid to Gaza in the past.

“It is of tremendous concern and I find it abhorrent,” said Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), who is on the House Homeland Security Committee. “To be honest with you, I am kind of stunned by it. It is disturbing to the maximum degree.”

The self-styled textile artist and model does not identify as Jewish, and has publicly stated so through her spokesman, Joseph Viola.

Two years ago, Viola told the Forward, a Jewish news site, that while her father started “celebrating Judaism” a few years ago, Emhoff herself was living independently already and did not identify with her father’s religion.

“It’s not something she grew up with,” he told the outlet. “Ella truly has no qualms with the faith, but she does not want to speak on behalf of Judaism, as she does not celebrate herself.”

Doug Emhoff and his ex-wife, film producer Kerstin (Mackin) Emhoff, divorced in 2008, when Ella was a young girl. Kamala Harris married Doug Emhoff six years later.

Stepdaughter and stepmother get along very well, with Harris congratulating “our daughter Ella” when she graduated Parsons School of Design in May 2021.

“I am so proud of you. Keep dreaming with ambition and there is nothing you cannot achieve,” she posted on Twitter, ending with, “Love, Momala.”

NETANYAHU SAYS IT AGAIN: No Ceasefire Without Return Of Hostages

0

Today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid a visit to the Ramon Air Force Base, where he engaged with aircrew combat personnel and ground crew personnel. The visit served as an opportunity to gain insights into the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, specifically focusing on the air attacks and crucial close support provided to ground forces currently operating in the region. The base commander, Col. G, commenced the visit by delivering a comprehensive briefing to Prime Minister Netanyahu on the squadron’s activities and the pivotal role played by combat helicopters.

During the briefing, the base commander underscored the high level of cooperation and the close ties that exist between air units and the ground forces, emphasizing the seamless coordination between them.

Prime Minister Netanyahu subsequently engaged in discussions with aircrews who have been actively involved in the ongoing conflict. He received detailed briefings on the deployment and operation of F-16I fighter jets, gaining insights into the critical role they play in the current military operations.

Additionally, Prime Minister Netanyahu interacted with the technical crews responsible for maintaining and arming the aircraft, gaining a firsthand understanding of the behind-the-scenes efforts that enable the air force to carry out its missions effectively.

In a message delivered during his visit, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to the dedicated personnel of the Israeli Air Force. He highlighted the strength of their resolve, particularly in the face of adversity, and how their actions have confounded the expectations of Israel’s adversaries.

“I thank you. Our enemies misjudged us. They thought that on the crucial day we would not report. We reported together, and now we are fighting shoulder-to-shoulder,” Prime Minister Netanyahu stated emphatically.

He went on to make a firm declaration regarding the ongoing conflict, stating, “I also want you to know that there is one thing we will not do: There will be no ceasefire without the return of the hostages. This should be completely removed from the lexicon. We say this to our friends and to our enemies. We will simply continue until we defeat them. We have no alternative. I think that we all understand this today.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu concluded his message with a resounding commitment to unity and perseverance: “The entire nation is united and relies on you, appreciates what you are doing, and believes in you. We will continue together until victory.”

The visit to the Ramon Air Force Base also featured the participation of the Director of the National Security Council, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, and the Prime Minister’s Military Secretary.

Ivanka Trump, the former first daughter, is currently engaged in her own legal battle but has taken time to join friends in prayer for the safe return of hostages held by Hamas. As she grapples with the ongoing trial involving her father, former President Donald Trump, Ivanka has shown her support for the victims of the October 7 attack launched by Hamas against Israel.

In Ivanka’s post on her Instagram stories, she wrote, “In preparation for Shabbat, I gathered with friends in the community to bake challah and pray for the safe return of the hostages captured by Hamas and the strength and protection of the innocent people who are suffering so greatly.”

IDF Uncovers Hamas’s Use of Civilian Facilities for Military Operations in Gaza

0

Amid ongoing combat operations in the Gaza Strip, the IDF on Sunday yet again exposed Hamas’s exploitation of the civilian population by locating rocket launchers in civilian areas, including playgrounds, a children’s pool, and an old amusement park.

The IDF spokesperson stated, “During fighting in the Gaza Strip, IDF soldiers are exposing how the Hamas terror organization systematically uses civilian facilities for its terror activity. IDF soldiers located rocket launchers near a children’s swimming pool, as well as launch pits and rocket launchers in an old children’s playground in the Gaza Strip. This is further proof of Hamas’s deliberate use of civilian infrastructure and civilians, including children, as human shields for its military operations.”

Hamas has ordered civilians in northern Gaza to remain in place, disregarding IDF warnings and calls for them to evacuate to the southern part of the Gaza Strip to escape the conflict. This tactic is part of Hamas’s strategy to employ human shields to deter Israeli strikes against its fighters, leaders, and weapons, and to maximize civilian casualties, which they hope will generate global condemnation of Israel’s efforts to defend its citizens.

Reports have accused Hamas of shooting and killing dozens of civilians, including women and children, who were attempting to flee to southern Gaza. Many of the victims were said to be carrying white flags. According to author and journalist Amjad Taha, Hamas intends to use civilians as human shields and eliminate anyone attempting to leave. Hamas typically blames Israel for such incidents, and there is media that propagates this narrative.

The IDF disclosed that 200 Hamas terrorists involved in the Oct. 7 attack in Israel had fled into Gaza and were hiding in Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Hamas is believed to have constructed a command center beneath the hospital.

Overnight Motzoei Shabbos, IDF troops directed aircraft to strike a Hamas military compound containing command and control centers, observation posts, and other terrorist infrastructure.

Throughout the combined operations involving ground, air, and naval forces in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict, over 2,500 terror targets have been successfully targeted.

Letter from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Our Soldiers and Commanders in the Swords of Iron War

0

“Soldiers, men and women,

All of the dear security forces,

Envoys of the people and the state,

The foundation of the existence of the Jewish people for thousands of years has been the constant struggle for our lives and our freedom.

We have always fought bitter enemies who have risen up against us to destroy us. Equipped with strength of spirit and a just cause, we have stood determined against those who seek our lives.

The current fight against the murderers of ‘Hamas’ is another chapter in the generations-long story of our national resilience.

‘Remember what Amalek did to you.’

We will always remember the horrific scenes of the massacre on Shabbat Simchat Torah, 7 October 2023. We see our murdered brothers and sisters, the wounded, the hostages, and the fallen of the IDF and the security services.

In their name and on their behalf, we have gone to war, the purpose of which is to destroy the brutal and murderous Hamas-ISIS enemy, bring back our hostages and restore the security to our country, our citizens and our children.

This is a war between the children of light and the children of darkness. We will not relent in our mission until the light overcomes the darkness; the good will defeat the extremist evil that threatens us and the entire world.

Dear soldiers of the IDF and the security forces, wherever you are, on land, sea or air, in the assembly points and deep in the field, in the intelligence, munitions, logistics and medical units, new pages in the annals of Israel are being written by you.

Your daring, your devotion to the goal and the courage of your hearts are deeply inspiring.

All of you are part of the chain of heroes who were not deterred and did not retreat – Joshua, Deborah the Prophetess, King David, Judah Maccabee, Bar Kochba, Joseph Trumpledor, the fighters of the underground movements, the IDF and the security services. They brandished the defending sword for the eternal Israel, and you are marching in their footsteps.

In all of my meetings with you in recent weeks, I have been deeply impressed by your inner strength, the spirit of victory as it says in the Tanakh (Psalms 18:40) – “You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me’.”

When I send you on your missions, dear heroes, I am certain of our absolute victory over our enemies. Together with the entire people of Israel – I rely on you, I am proud of you and I love you.

‘May G-d make the enemies who rise against us be struck down before them! Praised is He who protects and delivers our soldiers from all trouble and distress, and from all affliction and illness, and send blessing and success to all the work of their hands. May He subdue our enemies under them and crown them with deliverance and victory.’

Be strong and have courage for victory; with G-d’s help, together we will win!

Shabbat Shalom!

Rabbi Jonathan Gewirtz – Snooze, Don’t Lose

Operation Inspiration

If you use an alarm clock to wake you up in the morning, or even in the afternoon, you’re probably familiar with a feature called, “snooze.” First introduced in 1956 by General Electric-Telechron, this button silenced the alarm for a bit over 9 minutes. That was not necessarily the “optimal” amount of time to rest, but was rather due to the configuration of the gears and easier programming of a single-digit function over a double-digit one. Nevertheless, it’s become rather standard.

The idea is that when you have to get up but are tired, you can grab a few extra minutes before you get out of bed. Many of us will set our alarms earlier than we actually need, so we can enjoy the almost sinful feeling of snoozing once or twice before dragging ourselves out of bed. Ironically, scientists say those few minutes can make you even more tired and leave you fatigued for the rest of the day. And, I’m sure many can attest that because they use the ubiquitous snooze feature, they’ve managed to oversleep and been late for whatever it was they had set their alarm for.

However, one morning, as I struck my snooze button, it struck me right back. Well, metaphorically, at least. I realized that as my time in bed dwindled, I didn’t want to get up any sooner than I absolutely had to. Hitting the snooze button was my way of taking control of my life, and gathering a few more precious moments of rest. Even if they weren’t the deepest of sleeps, they had benefit and were pleasurable.

Life on earth can be compared to sleeping. We have dreams and we are preparing for a fresh, new tomorrow. Just as our sleeping should be done with the intention of awakening refreshed and ready to take on the new day, our lives should be used to build up the spiritual energy for the long day ahead, the afterlife which is eternal.

If that’s so, we ought not to give in to having to get “out of bed,” meaning the cessation of our growth and accomplishment. Instead, just like the snooze button, we should take every moment we have to grab another mitzva, another kindness, another moment of Torah.

Yes, we may be getting older, and we may not have the sharpness or vitality of our youth. But that doesn’t mean we ought to resign ourselves to the fact that we can’t do things as we did before, and just get ready to move on. We don’t just “retire” and spend our times playing golf or sitting in a rocking chair. Not at all! Instead, we fight back against the lethargy with a smack of the snooze button, delaying our departure even just a bit.

Now, having made this brilliant connection and given you this lofty perspective, I realize that I’m barely past the halfway mark of my typical word count. What shall I talk about? Well, how about another sleep-related analogy?

Have you ever been laying in bed, very tired, yet unable to sleep? Certainly, when you get to a certain age, you are likely to have experienced this. Well, what will you do with those minutes and hours? You could try reading a book, many people play games on their phones, and there are so many other possibilities if you have a phone with internet. You can be scrolling through all the news of the day, and garnering the opinions of whoever felt strongly enough to share their thoughts, regardless of how inaccurate their analysis of the world may be. You can be watching silly videos that make you laugh. But if you think about my previous message, you might want to change that.

Could you be learning Torah at that time? Assuming everyone is properly covered, why not? To be honest, the Yetzer Hara will probably help you fall asleep faster, simply so you don’t keep learning.

I’m not saying you have to be like the Chazon Ish, who was known to learn by his table until he felt he had just enough energy to make it to his bed, and would be asleep before his head hit the pillow, but you can do good things in your waking moments.

Want to know something? I even wrote the beginning of this column while I was trying to sleep. I started typing and got pretty far before I needed to shut my eyes and drift off. I guess the message here is to seize not only the day, but the night, the morning, and the moments in between, and do something positive. This is the stuff dreams are made of.

Israeli President Meets With Envoys Whose Citizens Were Murdered and Abducted by Hamas

0
By TPS • 3 November, 2023

Jerusalem, 3 November, 2023 (TPS) — President Isaac Herzog on Thursday met with the ambassadors of Thailand, the Philippines, Tanzania and Nepal, countries whose citizens were murdered and taken hostage in Hamas’s Oct. 7 terror invasion of southwestern Israel, the President’s Office in Jerusalem said.

“We are here because of the tragedy that has befallen the people of Israel, and many people from your nations. We know that many of your citizens in Israel were murdered, killed, tortured, wounded, and unfortunately, taken hostage,” Herzog told the envoys.

“Hamas does not differentiate between any religion, any belief, any country, any state. Thirty-six countries are represented in this entire tragedy. But your countries are represented the most in terms of the fact that so many citizens of yours have faced this horrendous atrocity,” he added.

The president concluded, “Your citizens have been ruthlessly abducted and taken to Gaza as innocent people who came to study and work in our country and do good. The Israeli people love and appreciate your people.”

Among foreign countries, citizens of Thailand were the second largest number of fatalities—right after the U.S.—in the Hamas massacre of 1,400 Israelis living near the Gaza border.

Twenty-nine Thai workers were killed in the terror attack, the ambassador said, while an additional 23 Thai nationals were among the nearly 250 people taken hostage by Hamas in Gaza, the single largest group of foreigners from a total of more than three dozen countries.

“The news about Israel is every day in the Thai media, and we are concerned about the well-being of the Thai people who are still living and working here in Israel,” Thai Ambassador Pannabha Chandraramya said.

“We have grave concern for those who have been abducted. We want to know where they are and how we can help them,” the envoy told Herzog.

Hamas stealing fuel from Gaza hospitals, IDF reveals

0

According to what the Israeli military says is an intercepted call between Hamas commanders in the Gaza Strip, the terror group is stealing fuel from hospitals in the enclave.

By JNS

The three-way phone call, a recording of which the Israel Defense Forces released on Wednesday, is between the deputy commander of Hamas’s Western Jabalia Battalion, a Hamas commander (identified as “Gaza resident”) and the director of the Indonesia Hospital in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, Dr. Atef Al Kahlout.

The deputy Hamas commander, who is at the hospital with Al Kahlout, wants fuel, but there seems to be some sticking point. He then apparently calls his superior, the Hamas commander, to clear things up.

The commander, who repeatedly refers to fuel diverted from the hospital to the terror group, urges Al Kahlout to give the deputy commander fuel.

Al Kahlout says that a Finance Ministry official told him “last night” to give a Hamas operative 1,000 liters of fuel. “I said to him that they [the hospital] have 600 liters in the supply. He told me to fill up with 600 liters for them.”

To which the commander replies: “We’ll all working as a government for the sake of the country,” adding, “For God’s sake, fill it up for him now, people are pressuring us.”

According to the IDF, the recording confirms that Hamas controls fuel distribution in Gaza.

“Despite the sensitive nature of this intelligence, this intercept is being declassified to expose Hamas’s cynical exploitation of humanitarian resources in the Gaza Strip,” said the IDF, adding that Hamas is “prioritizing terrorist needs over the needs of their civilian population.”

Israel has agreed to let humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip on condition that it is not diverted to Hamas, and said it would stop the flow of aid if it becomes clear that it is going to the terror group.

The United States has also stated that aid will cease in the event of diversion.

“If Hamas diverts or steals the assistance, they will have demonstrated once again that they have no concern for the welfare of the Palestinian people, and it will end as a practical matter,” U.S. President Joe Biden said during an Oct. 18 address while visiting Israel. “It will stop the international community from being able to provide this aid.”

A State Department spokesman said on Wednesday that the administration had “not yet seen any diversion of humanitarian assistance once it’s gotten into Gaza,” but added, “It’s an issue we’re concerned about, it’s an issue the Israeli government is very much concerned about, so we’ll continue to monitor it.”

While humanitarian aid permitted by Israel has been limited to food, water and medicine, the State Department said on Oct. 30 that it wants fuel added to the mix.

“Fuel is essential to the delivery of humanitarian assistance, the desalinization of water and the provision of medical care, and we want to see it provided for those purposes as soon as possible,” said the State Department.

Miller said talks on including fuel were making progress.

Last week, Israeli authorities released aerial images of Hamas storage tanks in Gaza containing at least half a million liters of fuel, stressing that questions regarding shortages should be addressed to the Islamist group and not Jerusalem.

Also last week, the New York Times cited Arab and Western officials saying Israeli claims that Hamas is stockpiling food, fuel and other supplies have merit.

Hamas has been building dozens of miles of tunnels under the Gaza Strip and filling them with supplies needed for a long fight, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to compromise intelligence sources.

Hamas has hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel, ammunition, explosives, food, water and medicine, they said.
