Last night’s Powerball drawing concluded without a winner once again, propelling the estimated jackpot to a staggering $900 million.
None of the tickets purchased for the Motzoei Shabbos draw matched the winning combination: the white balls with numbers 2, 9, 43, 55, 57, and the red Powerball numbered 18. The approximate value of the jackpot was calculated at $875 million.
Prospective buyers for Monday’s draw stand a chance to claim either $900 million distributed annually or a lump sum payment of $465.1 million (pre-tax).
Powerball announced in an early Sunday statement that the top prize represents the third-largest Powerball jackpot and the seventh-largest in the history of U.S. lotteries. Despite the absence of a jackpot winner, Powerball reported that three tickets successfully matched all five white balls last night. The holders of these tickets are entitled to claim $1 million each, with two tickets sold in Texas and one in Colorado. The jackpot will continue to grow until someone emerges victorious.
The game’s exceptionally slim odds of 1 in 292.2 million are deliberately structured to create substantial prizes that entice a larger number of players. The highest recorded Powerball jackpot to date amounted to $2.04 billion in November. The most recent Powerball jackpot victory occurred on April 19, with the grand prize totaling nearly $253 million. Since then, the grand prize has gone unclaimed for 37 consecutive drawings.
