Herzog will reach the coronation ceremony by foot, in order not to publicly desecrate the Sabbath.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal are slated to depart on Thursday to England to represent the State of Israel at the coronation of the King of Britain, King Charles III, alongside leaders from countries around the world.

On Friday, the president will participate in a reception hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in honor of the heads of states, kings, presidents, prime ministers, and royal families who arrive from around the world for the coronation.

The following day, the president and his wife will attend the official coronation ceremony of Charles III at Westminster Abbey. In order to observe the Sabbath, Herzog and his wife will walk to the coronation ceremony from their nearby residence.

“The president will act in all matters related to the sanctity of the Sabbath in coordination with the Chief Rabbi of British Jewry, Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, who will also participate in the coronation ceremony and offer a special prayer,” a statement from the president’s office said.

Over the weekend, the Chief Rabbi of Britain published a special prayer service for the day of the coronation of King Charles, which will take place next Saturday.

Rabbi Mirvis stipulates that parts of Hallel should be added to the prayer, as well as a special prayer for the King which reads in part: “You have placed Your servant King Charles ? on the throne of his ancestors. He rules over many in places across the world under his sceptre, which symbolises freedom, righteousness, and humanity.”

Furthermore, Rabbi Mirvis notes that a prayer for the well-being of the royal family should be recited, and that the prayers should conclude with the singing of the British anthem.
