Sentencing of Palestinian Terrorists Leads to Quarrel in Jerusalem Court

Written by Michael Bachner/TPS on November 30, 2015

Jerusalem (TPS) – Three members of a Palestinian terrorist cell that planned to kidnap and murder Jews, received their prison sentences at the Jerusalem District Court on Monday, November 30.

After they received their prison sentences, which varied between 3.5 to 13 years, the families of the convicted terrorists started quarreling with the court guards and prison service personnel outside the courtroom.

The three Palestinians are residents of the A-Tur neighborhood in Jerusalem, and were part of a terrorist cell that consisted of eight members. The cell leader, Nur Hamdan, admitted to planning military actions on the Temple Mount, inspired to do so by inciteful Youtube videos about terrorist attacks in Jerusalem, particularly a 2008 attack at the “Merkaz HaRav” Yeshiva in which eight Jews were murdered.

Sources from the prosecution told Tazpit Press Service (TPS) that the indictment for each member was very serious and could have resulted in many years in prison. But the court eventually decided to lighten their sentences.

Cell member, Jalal Kutub, 23-years-old, was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He was convicted of conspiring to kidnap and murder, kidnapping with murderous intent, illegal military training, carrying weapons, production of weapons, attempted purchasing of weapons and planned robbery.

Muhammad Shaer, 21, who was sentenced to four and a half years, was convicted of aiding the enemy in a time of war and of attempted robbery.

The third member, 28-year-old Ahmad Bazlamit, received three and a half years in prison for conspiring to aid the enemy in a time of war, and for attempted robbery.

According to the indictment, the cell members planned and attempted to carry out terrorist attacks between February and March of 2013. They planned on murdering Jews and police forces on the Temple Mount, kidnapping Jews and taking their weapons, and throwing grenades at police stations.

Additionally, the cell members attempted to grab weapons from undercover policemen in eastern Jerusalem. They also attempted to abduct and murder Jews and soldiers by pretending to give them a lift in their car. They also unsuccessfully tried to build a pipe bomb and tried to contact the Hamas and Fatah organizations.
