Fires broke out in several locations across Israel on Monday due to the extreme weather.
Firefighters are battling three major blazes, one near the northern town of Mashhad, one near Beit Shemesh and another near the town of Mata.
Residents who live close to the fires in Mashhad and Beit Shemesh have been evacuated, due to the heavy smoke and the fear the fire might spread and reach homes. In addition, nearby roads were closed by police
The Fire Department’s spokesperson said in a statement that numerous teams have been deployed to extinguish the blazes as quickly as possible. According to the statement, the fires near Beit Shemesh and Mata are under control, but the fire near Mashhad has yet to be tamed by the teams on the ground.
