Shortly after 7:20PM, Magen David Adom (MDA) received a call that two individuals were injured on route 557 near Avnei Hefetz junction. Originally reported to be a car accident, it became apparent that the a travelling vehicle had fired rounds at other cars causing one to crash.

A male in his 60s and was evacuated in serious condition having received gun shots in his hand and leg and also having sustained head injuries. Additionally, a 60 year old woman was said to be in light condition having been shot in her thigh.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the IDF immediately closed the roads and conducted security searches in pursuit of the vehicle from which the guns were shot after it managed to flee the scene. Twenty three bullet holes were found on the attacked car and one of the windows was shattered.

The head of the Shomron council Yossi Dagan, in an interview with TPS, condemned the decision to open the road to Israelis and Palestinians just over half a year ago. “I personally came here with military and political officials and warned against opening the road and the answer which I received was that “it is a good thing to open it to everyone because it will improve the economy” and all kinds of reasons. But this is already the second time that we have experienced a shooting attack on this road because the road was opened for political or other reasons. And in the same place despite the fact that we warned another attack occurred that is simply a Hanukah miracle that did not end with fatalities,” he said.

Dagan urged Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, to stop abandoning the communities in Shomron. “We are not second class citizens. We deserve security like every other place in Israel. We won’t allow this abandonment to continue. We won’t allow this to happen again,” Dagan told TPS.

The incident is the second attack of the day. This morning a stabbing attack took place in which two Israelis were wounded at around 1:00PM. The terrorist was shot and killed.
