The 10-ton purchase included 2,000 kilograms of raisins, about 500 kg of Almonds, a ton of peanuts, a ton and a half of dried apricots,1,000 kg of banana chips and a half ton of cranberries.
Tu BiShvat, Hebrew for the 15th of the month of Shvat, is a Jewish holiday which celebrates the date for calculating the beginning of the agricultural cycle for the purpose of biblical tithes. It occurs in the winter around mid-January.
Tu Bishvat is celebrated in modern-day Israel as an ecological awareness day, and trees are planted in celebration.
Dried fruit and various nuts are traditionally eaten on Tu BiShvat.
