Israel’s One-Armed Warrior: A Soldier’s Tale of Struggle & Perseverance
Monday, November 18 | 8:00 PM
Born to a Chabad family in Brooklyn and raised in Miami, Izzy Ezagui made Aliya in order to join the Israeli army and pursue his dream. Izzy was sent into combat at the border of Gaza in Operation Cast Lead. He took a direct hit by a mortar and lost his left and dominant arm.
His first thought upon awakening in the hospital was that he must find a way to return to combat. Against all odds, Izzy Ezagui became the first soldier in Israel’s history to rejoin the army in a military role after sustaining such an injury. He currently serves in Israel’s Special Forces Paratrooper Unit. In, May of 2011, Shimon Peres, the president of Israel, awarded him the highest accolade a soldier outside the battlefield can receive.
