SWC Urges Anti-Semitism at UCLA be Addressed at Museum of ToleranceDuring Today’s Meeting with UCLA Chancellor Block

In light of recent events at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Simon Wiesenthal Center officials met with UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and members of his senior staff to offer a series of solutions to the growing problem of anti-Semitism on the campus. Recently, the appointment of a student to the University’s Judicial Board was challenged only because she was Jewish.

During the meeting, Rabbi Meyer H. May, Simon Wiesenthal Center Executive Director and Aron Hier, Campus Outreach Director urged the Chancellor and his executives to:
1. Participate in the Museum of Tolerance’s award-winning diversity training program – Chancellor Block readily agreed

2. Offer students a customized training program at no cost – student leaders had already indicated their interest; Chancellor Block said that he would urge the students to consider the diversity training program at the Museum of Tolerance

3. Bring IACT Impact to UCLA, the Center’s Campus Outreach program that is an innovative, interactive workshop that is customized for different campus audiences and includes a presentation that deals with campus climate and anti-Semitism
In recent weeks, the Center’s Campus Outreach division has met with campus leaders, administrators, and staff at troubled campuses across the US including top officials at the City University New York (CUNY), the largest urban university in the United States.

Just today, the Center welcomed the strong statement condemning anti-Semitismfrom UC President Board of Regents Janet Napolitano, which followed a meeting (pictured right) between Rabbi May, Aron Hier and her Chief of Staff, Seth Grossman, just a few weeks ago.

The Wiesenthal Center’s Campus Outreach Department is eager to work with UCLA following requests from the UCLA community of students, faculty, administration, and alumni and welcomed the recent UCLA resolution condemning anti-Semitism.
