JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Ukrainian government issued a stern warning to Israel Sunday, stating that the deportation of Ukrainian citizens from Israel is endangering the entire Uman enterprise due to take place in the coming weeks.

The warning was made in a speech by Ukrainian president Volodymr Zelensky and was transmitted by the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel, Yevgen Korniachuk, stating that “If the deportation of Ukrainians by Israel won’t stop, Israelis will be prevented from entering Uman. Ukraine will cancel the visa waiver agreement with Israel.”

The ambassador called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to reconsider the entry policy regarding Ukrainians.

Korniachuk added that “The Ukrainian government will not accept the humiliation of its citizens on entering Israel. We will stop visa waiver agreements, this possibility is on the government’s agenda.

“It is unthinkable that we should go out of our way to host tens of thousands of Israelis in Uman, with high security risks and huge logistic efforts and at the same time the Israeli government is mistreating our citizens arriving in Israel based on the treaty between the two countries. If Israel wants its citizens to arrive in Israel as tourists, including Uman, I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu must personally intervene in finding a solution to the present situation.

According to immigration authority data, about 10% of Ukrainians arriving in Israel are refused entry. The authorities said that this was not unique to Ukraine and other countries also had similar numbers of entry refusals.
