Amid one of the busiest travel weekends in the country, the largest terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport experienced a “security incident” that prompted a partial evacuation, NBC reports. The first signs of a situation at the airport began surfacing shortly before 11 a.m. as passengers ushered out of Terminal 4 posted to social media.
Passengers were cleared from the departures area of the terminal as officials investigated an unattended bag, a Port Authority spokesperson confirmed to NBC.
A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told Fox News that there has not been an evacuation order, but people have been “relocated” from departures to arrivals at Terminal 4 amid an ongoing investigation into an “unattended bag.”
It wasn’t immediately clear what impact the partial evacuation might have on arriving or departing flights.
