Defense Minister Moving Galei Tzahal To The Capital

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has decided to move Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, to the new Beit HaChayal complex. The army radio will begin broadcasting from its new home in three months.

Lieberman decided to move the station out of the old building in Yaffo and to move it to the new venue in Jerusalem near the entrance to the city. Lieberman’s office worked with Jerusalem City Hall officials to find a new and acceptable venue for the radio station in order to move it to the capital. It is reported the move is being done with the support and full cooperation of the station’s staff and the organization representing civilian employees of the IDF.

The new complex will also include the new induction center, which has been on Rashi Street for years. The new Beit Galei Tzahal will encompass 2,500 square meters, which will provide a new digital broadcast along with housing the induction center and Gal Galatz IDF-affiliated station.

The new building will be completed in three years. Until such time it is completed, Galei Tzahal will begin broadcasting from Jerusalem in the existing set up, which they say can accommodate the station’s needs.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman: “When I became Minister of Defense, I decided that Galei Tzahal, the leading public broadcasting station in Israel, must broadcast from Jerusalem, our capital. Today I am pleased to announce that this train has been launched. Until the permanent building of the station is established in about 3 years, the news broadcasts and programs will gradually move to the existing studios. We will continue to strengthen Jerusalem in every way.”

Station head Shimon Alkabetz added, “The natural place of public broadcasting is in the capital of Israel. Galei Tzahal and Galgalatz stations serve soldiers from all over the country, who reflect the face of the State of Israel in all its diversity.”
