Jerusalem, 5 May, 2021 (TPS) — The first cargo plane with tons of medical equipment donated by Israel to the Government of India landed at Indira Airport in India on Wednesday morning.

In the coming days, more planes are expected to leave Israel for Delhi with thousands of oxygen generators, respirators and medicines for the benefit of the citizens of India who are contending with an unprecedented wave of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections.

The equipment will mainly go to Delhi’s state hospital and includes thousands of group and individual oxygen generators, respirators, medications, and additional medical equipment.

“The State and people of Israel stand with, and embrace the people of India, our close and important friend,” Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi stated.

India reported 382,691 new cases on Tuesday, a global record. The country recorded over 20,665,000 cases and 226,000 deaths.

The Indian variant has two mutations that may make it more infectious or less affected by vaccines.
