Jerusalem, 24 March, 2022 (TPS) — Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority are working intensely to prevent a violent outbreak in eastern Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the coming Muslim month of Ramadan.

As part of these efforts, Jordan King Abdullah will soon visit the area.

Sources close to the Jordanian royal palace told TPS Thursday that the royal palace is in contact with the management of the Waqf and the senior preachers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and demanded that they calm the atmosphere with moderate sermons and avoid provoking outbursts.

Other elements in the Hashemite royal family are also currently in contact with senior Muslim clerics in Jerusalem.

As part of the contacts between the parties, Israel was asked to avoid introducing strict security measures in Jerusalem and to act as much as possible to allow the freedom of movement and worship of Muslims in mosques in Jerusalem during Ramadan and narrow the steps of Jews visiting the Temple Mount.

Israel recently decided to allow the residents of the PA to pray in Jerusalem’s mosques throughout the month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Hamas supporters are calling on Muslims to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque starting Friday and increase attendance to mark Land Day, which will take place at the end of the month, all as part of the mass prayers dubbed “The Great Dawn.”

The efforts between Jordan, Egypt, Israel and the PA come in light of Hamas’ success last year during the month of Ramadan to take over the atmosphere in eastern Jerusalem and gain great sympathy in mosques, which culminated with a missile attack on Jerusalem and the commencement of Operation Guardian of the Walls.

Hamas’ domination of the street in Jerusalem last year, the expulsion of the PA Mufti of Jerusalem by Hamas supporters from the Temple Mount and other events have alarmed the palace in Jordan.
