Police Officer Raymond Sanchez, who was wounded when responding to the shooting at a Kosher grocery store in Jersey City, NJ, was given an award by the children he protected at a Menorah lighting ceremony on Sunday.

At a ceremony held in front of the Kosher Supermarket where an anti-Semitic attack took place two weeks ago, singer Yoely Greenfeld, brother of victim Leah Mindel Ferencz, made the blessings and lit a Menorah only a few feet away from the place his sister was killed.

“I know that Mindy would be uplifted to see the outpouring of support we have received from the Jersey City residents and from all over the world, from every race and religion,” Greenfield said.

Jersey City police officers who were injured in the firefight were honored at the lighting. Raymond Sanchezappeared to have tears in his eyes as he was presented an award from Yeshiva school children whose lives were saved that day by those heroic officers.

The Jersey City menorah was displayed outside the boarded-up market Ferencz, 32, and her husband, Moshe Ferencz, owned. NJ Attorney General Gurbir Grewal was also present at the candle lighting.
