UN Security Council to Discuss Jerusalem Construction

Written by Yoni Ariel/TPS on January 25, 2017

The UN Security Council is currently debating a motion to discuss the approval of over 600 accommodation units in the contested neighborhoods of Ramot, Ramat Shlomo and Pisgat Zeev. The motion was proposed by Bolivia, at the request of the PA.

The council is expected to condemn Israel for ignoring previous resolutions regarding settlement construction. The UN does not differentiate between construction in Jerusalam neighborhoods over the Green Line and settlements in Judea and Samaria.

It is not clear whether this will be merely another run of the mill condemnation, or whether the UN might decide to send President Trump a challenge by adopting a resolution that goes further than that.
